Personal Injury
A personal injury is any physical or other harm caused to one person by another. A personal injury can occur under many different circumstances. One can be injured in an automobile, truck, motorcycle, or bicycle accident, by a defective product, in a trip and fall accident on a slippery or wet floor, or by negligent medical treatment. Such an injury could even arise out of a false arrest, a malicious prosecution, or through an invasion of privacy. The person to whom the injury is caused is entitled to damages, and typically, there is no ceiling on the amount of damages that can be awarded in a personal injury case because the amount of damages awarded is directly related to the extent of the injuries that are sustained. It is important to note that a personal injury incident can give rise to both civil and criminal litigation.
